At last, a more reliable source has chimed in on the Diego Costa contract renewal story.

Yesterday, The Sun claimed that Chelsea and Costa have agreed in principle over a new five-year contract to the tune of £220,000 weekly wages plus bonuses. Today, the Evening Standard tempers that story a bit, denying that an agreement has been reached, but confirming that “negotiations are under way” for a contract in the same neighborhood as the one reported yesterday. There have been rumors of Costa wanting to double his salary to £300,000 but that’s apparently not something we’re willing to do.
The Standard claims that Chelsea have brought forward these talks from the summer due to the reported interest from China over January, though the Standard themselves reported back in November that Chelsea were already willing to sit down and offer a new and improved deal.
Either way, negotiations are ongoing and that’s a good thing.
