West Ham 1-0 Chelsea, Premier League: Post-match reaction

[FUN].

Well, that sucked.

West Ham score early, Chelsea never quite find a decent enough forward gear or a way through, for that matter, and that’s that. West Ham defended deep, fouled strategically, made all their clearances and got their win. West Ham two chances, scored one. Chelsea had two chances, scored none.

19 shots, 2 on target. Not going to win many like that.

Eight-game unbeaten run in the league over. West Ham’s eight-game winless run in all competitions is also over.

Chelsea have now lost to bottom-of-table Crystal Palace, and second to bottom-of-table West Ham. There will be better days.

Carefree.

  • Early subs from Conte, understandably, with Pedro on at half for Bakayoko, then Moses on for Alonso (still in 3-5-2), then switching to a 3-4-3 with Willian on for Zappacosta and Pedro moving to left wing-back. At some point we switched to four at the back, too, with Azpi as left back and Morata & Hazard together up top. Conte going just about all-out, to no avail.
  • Early Morata penalty shout could’ve changed the game. Brief tug on the shirt out of sight of the referee, Morata doesn’t fall well enough, no call.
  • Early goal from West Ham the third straight game and fourth in five that Chelsea conceded first. Can’t keep doing that and expect the team to bring it back to a win or at least a draw every time.
  • Early game, early loss, weekend ruined early.
  • Next up: Huddersfield Town away on Tuesday; attentions shift to top four race regardless of outcome of Manchester Derby on Sunday.
  • KTBFFH.
