Chelsea 3-1 Newcastle United, Player Ratings: Hazard the almost perfect 10

1. EDEN HAZARD (9.4)

Minutes: 76
Touches: 80
Passes: 36/45
Shots: 6**/9
Take-ons: 10/11
Fouls drawn: 3

What more can we say about Hazard, a perfect 10 by WhoScored’s reckoning?

The nine shots is surely a personal record for him at Chelsea, just as the six on target is the most anyone’s managed this season in the Premier League! We’re always imploring Hazard to shoot more (had 13 shots altogether this season in the league, 11 on target!), so it’s always nice when he obliges.

2. VICTOR MOSES (7.9)

Minutes: 90
Touches: 91
Passes: 46**/54
Shots: 1/4
Take-ons: 1/3
Fouls drawn: 4
Tackles+INTs: 5

I thought it was quite fitting that Moses made his full return to the team following his hamstring injury against the last Chelsea head coach (before Conte) to actually give him a chance in the first-team. Moses was instrumental in getting Chelsea to the Europa League final that year, just as he’s been instrumental to Conte’s tactics ever since last summer. Zappacosta is a good backup, but this performance, hardly perfect in its own right, was a reminder that Moses is still the locked on first-choice.

3. ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN (7.8)

Minutes: 78
Touches: 91
Passes: 74/81
Shots: 0/3
Tackles+INTs: 1
Clearances+Aerial duels: 9

Above all the good composure, decision-making, and defensive qualities that he’s been showing, Christensen did something today that’s been largely absent for him in Chelsea colors: stepping up into midfield and carrying the ball forward when afford space to do so — the perfect through-ball for Moses is a lovely bonus on top of that.

STARTERS: Courtois (6.9), Rüdiger (7.2), Christensen (7.8), Azpilicueta (7.4), Alonso (6.5), Drinkwater (7.3), Kanté (7.7), Fàbregas (7.5), Moses (7.9), Hazard (9.4), Morata (7.7)

SUBSTITUTES: Bakayoko (6.2), Willian (6.4), Cahill (NR — assigned substitute average of 6.3)

CHELSEA 1-0 SWANSEA CITY

Thanks to the incredibly crap in-flight Wi-Fi last week (I realize that sounds a bit entitled but whatever) and my subsequent memory lapse and sleepiness, I never got around to doing the ratings from the Swansea City win.

2. N’GOLO KANTÉ (8.0)

3. ANDREAS CHRISTENSEN (7.7)

SUBSTITUTES: Moses (5.1), Hazard (6.5), Drinkwater (6.2)
