Chelsea keen to enter contract talks with Andreas Christensen — report

Chelsea v Southampton - Premier League

Andreas Christensen's rapid rise through the ranks continues by the minute. Having already established himself as a first-choice player at just 21 years of age over Chelsea cult hero and one of the standout players of last season, David Luiz, he’s now set to be rewarded with a new contract. According to the London Evening Standard, the Blues are keen to enter contract renewal talks with the former Academy standout who joined as a 16-year-old from Brondby in 2012.

Christensen last put pen to paper on a contarct in 2015, just prior to heading out on loan for two years at Borussia Monchengladbach. That £35,000-per-week deal is signed through 2020, but Chelsea are understandably wanting to bring the defender’s wages more in line with other first-team player salaries. According to the report, this extension is on the priority list for the front office, alongside the new deals for Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois. (Hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer for any of those three new contracts.)

It goes without saying that a new contract for Christensen makes all the sense in the world. Get it done!
