We’re taking a slight detour into nostalgia and also hype, as we reminisce for a moment about memorably Chelsea vs. Barcelona clashes of the past 10-15 years. The two sides won’t be meeting until late February in the Round of 16 of this year’s Champions League, but there’s a free shirt from Art of Football on the line, so perhaps you’ll indulge us for a moment.
That’s right, our friends at the Art of Football have offered up another free shirt for one of our loyal readers — check out their massive Chelsea t-shirt selection, including the latest that celebrates Álvaro Morata’s classic goal pose; ‘Brothers in Arms’ is a particular favorite of mine that I have in print form hanging next to my desk — and all you have to do to be in with a chance of winning it is to leave a comment below with your favorite memory from one of the many fateful encounters between Chelsea and Barcelona over the years. (Please ensure that it’s a “new” comment rather than just a “reply” to someone else’s comment; only one comment per username will be counted for entry to the random draw.) You have until kick-off on Saturday against Southampton to enter.
While there are many obvious moments just from the historic 2012 semifinal encounters, there are plenty more to choose from dating all the way back to 2000. So perhaps it’s not Torres running half the length of the pitch to drive Gary Neville into NSFW territory or Ramires executing the finish of the decade; perhaps it’s Damien Duff scoring on the counter (my personal favorite after all these years still, I think); or Didier Drogba coming back out onto the pitch to give his two cents to the TV cameras — the memory doesn’t necessarily have to involve a match event, nor does it necessarily have to be positive, if that’s your thing.
