Alvaro Morata ruled out of Chelsea’s game against Huddersfield Town

There were already concerns about Alvaro Morata’s fitness for the game against West Ham — he had picked up a knock in training on Friday that required a scan and was apparently also one several players affected by an illness that was going around the dressing room (and kept Drinkwater out) — and while Chelsea’s leading goalscorer manager to play through the whole game on Saturday, he certainly seemed far from his best. And that unfortunately included missing Chelsea’s best chance of the second half, one that could’ve gotten the Blues at least a share of the points.

Whatever it was that was affecting Morata seems to have not been helped by those 90 minutes in the cold London Stadium, as Conte has now ruled him out of the even colder trip up to Huddersfield on Tuesday night.

“Morata is out, because he’s a bit tired and there is a problem in his back."

Thankfully, Michy Batshuayi is back from his ankle injury and there’s also the possibility of playing Eden Hazard instead at center forward. But hopefully Batshuayi gets his chance.

In other Morata news, the 25-year-old has confirmed on Instagram that he and his wife are expecting their first child. Congrats!
