Michy Batshuayi vs. Watford: Heroic goals, heroic words, heroic tweets

Michy Batshuayi’s Chelsea career has been written off a few times over the past year or so, but like the Dark Knight who serves as inspiration for many a Michy meme, Batshuayi just keeps rising and saving the day, often when he’s least expected to.

But this Batsman does not need any fancy gadgets or a limitless supply of money and resources. He just needs a bit of belief, a bit of heart, and some good crossing from the right-hand side.

And some helpful translation, this time from César Azpilicueta.

"It’s been a difficult moment for me, but I’ve stayed focused every day. Train hard, play hard. Today is good. I got on the pitch and did my job. Two goals, three points: that's good for the team. That's it.

“Conte told me nothing [special when he put me on]. Just to fight for every ball, and play with good spirit.”

Conte may not have said anything special to Michy at the time, but after the game, the Chelsea boss spared no praise for the much maligned backup striker, who had fallen out of form (despite still scoring at a good rate) since his promising summer and end to last season.

Of course, this is Conte we’re talking about, so there cannot be an assessment that doesn’t end with a call to work and further improvement. Batshuayi has shown a willingness to do just that since arriving at Chelsea, so hopefully one day he will indeed put it all together where it counts, on the pitch.

“Don't forget Michy is a young player. For him, this is the first big experience with a great team. Today the impact was incredible and important, it must continue in this way - work, work, work and to have the passion to improve.

"I think it is always important to think for the team, not for himself or myself. The two goals were very important for the team. It is also important for the confidence of the strikers, but he has to continue to work in this way and to try with every chance to show he deserves to play."

With Batshuayi back in the goals, there was only one thing left to wait for, the Michy tweet(s).

Even the official Twitter account got in on the social media action!

The Batsman did not disappoint his loyal fans.

And he did not forget about his FIFA 18-self either, putting the call already for an “in-form” (IF) card like Team of the Week (TOTW).

And then he was off to enjoy the well-earned day off. No time to relax too long; Chelsea are back in action on Wednesday in the League Cup against Everton, with a start very likely for Saturday’s hero. The hero we all needed and deserved.
