The only thing Conte fears is fear itself ... and not learning from mistakes

No fear, fear is the mind-killer.

The only thing to fear, is feat itself.

And spiders.

And snakes.

And not learning from mistakes.

“You learn every day. You must be open to learn from your experiences. This is very important. If we think it’s impossible to learn something, we are stupid people. I learn every day and I want to learn every day.

“For sure you hope to not have problems in your season, but I stay here to work and to put all myself for this club, for the players, me and my staff.”

Conte has won many things over his illustrious playing and coaching career already, but he’s also experienced plenty of lows, be that devastating losses as a player (including in finals of World Cup ‘94, Euro 2000, and no less than three Champions Leagues) or spectacular failures as a coach (at Arezzo and Atalanta, winning just three games in about a dozen tries at either before getting sacked).

“I have a lot of experience as a player and a coach to face these type of situations. My history speaks very clearly. I am a person who is not afraid to face difficulties. I fought in the relegation zone. I started my career very badly in my first experience, but I understood and learned a lot from this.”

Conte feared and warned of a tough season ahead, and unfortunately that’s proving true so far. So it’s time to work hard, improve, and pay great attention. As always.

“For sure you hope to not have problems in your season, but I stay here to work and to put all myself for this club, for the players, me and my staff.

“We are in October. We have just started our season. We have to think about improving the present. Now we have to try and stay and face all the competitions with all our strength.

“The most important thing is to put ourselves in our work during the game and every day. We can’t find excuses. I don’t like to speak about other teams. It’s very important to look at ourselves. We have to try to do our best. That’s the most important thing. We must be focused on ourselves to try to improve and to try to have a good season.”

And as far as pressure from the club? It’s not something we should be worried about at the moment.

“I think that, about my talks with the club, it's right to keep them secret. It's not important to tell the press. I think, honestly, it must be in this way. This is the right way.

“The support is my job. The support is my job, my work. This is only my support. I know only this support in my experience. I don't know other support. I have to put all myself into the job. If this is enough, it's okay. If it's not enough, (shrugs). But the only support I know is my job.”

It’s all about the work.

Let’s get to it.

“I think every coach, every manager has to feel the pressure. When I go to my house I'm happy because I know in every moment I put all myself in my job for this club, for the fans, for my players."
