As if Chelsea didn’t already have enough injury problems, two more concerns were added to it in today’s match, with Antonio Conte revealing after the game that both David Luiz and Tiemoué Bakayoko, two of the three midfielders starting today, are carrying possible injuries.
With another game coming up on Saturday, Chelsea are facing a worst case scenario where Cesc Fàbregas would be the only midfielder fit for the game — other than youngsters like Ethan Ampadu or Kyle Scott or perhaps a defender (Christensen?) stepping into a defensive midfield role.
Conte says David Luiz had a pain in his calf so it was important to protect him. Bakayoko also has a pain in his groin. #CHEROM

David Luiz seemed to pick up the knock in the first half, but after a bit of treatment, soldiered on until about the 60-minute mark. Bakayoko finished out the game, but the slight injury could explain why he wasn’t nearly as effective today as we know he can be.
Needless to say, hopefully neither of these new concerns turn into anything as serious as the injuries affecting the already absent N’Golo Kanté, Victor Moses, or Danny Drinkwater.
