TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY
Welcome one, welcome all, welcome, welcome to Transfer Deadline Day. It's going to be a busy one, if for nothing else than Chelsea (and most of the rest of the league) having to play a round of games, too. Who made this schedule anyway?
It's been a relatively quiet window for most of the top teams in the league after the arms race of the summer, but that doesn't mean we couldn't have some m-m-m-m-m-madness going on with, say, Chelsea plunking down £40m for Celtic's Moussa Dembélé. We'll also be keeping an eye on backup goalkeeper rumors (Craig Gordon, also of Celtic an option as well as maybe Salvatore Sirigu?) — Asmir Begović is okay staying, but would really like to start playing as soon as possible once again.
It may not feel like it, but it's actually been a fairly busy window for Chelsea, as it tends to be the case when we have to manage roughly two teams worth of loanees.
Here are all the Chelsea deals done this January transfer window:
TRANSFERS IN:
- Nathan Aké — loan recall from AFC Bournemouth
- Kenedy — return from loan at Watford, probably staying with Chelsea rest of season
- Charly Musonda — return from loan at Real Betis, possibly staying with Chelsea rest of season
- Mitchell Beeney — return from loan at Crawley Town, future unclear
- Alex Davey — return from loan at Crawley Town, future unclear
- Kyle Jameson — signed as a free agent for the development squad
TRANSFERS OUT:
- Oscar — sold to Shanghai SIPG for a Chelsea record £60m
- Mikel — moved to Tianjin TEDA, probably for free
- Patrick Bamford — sold to Middlesbrough for around £6m, plus another £4m in possible add-ons
- Dion Conroy — moved to Swindon Town for a nominal fee (or free)
LOAN DEALS:
- Jay Dasilva — loaned to Charlton Athletic
- Jordan Houghton — loan extended at Doncaster Rovers
- Jamal Blackman — loan extended at Wycombe Wanderers
- Marco van Ginkel — loaned to PSV again
- Izzy Brown — switched loans from Rotheram to Huddersfield Town, upgrading in the process from fighting relegation to battling for promotion
- Joao Rodriguez — switched loans from one Colomian team (Santa Fe) to another (Cortulua)
- Charlie Colkett — switched loan from Bristol Rovers to Swindon Town
- Fankaty Dabo — loaned to Swindon Town
- Islam Feruz — also loaned to Swindon Town
- Nathan Baxter — switched loans from Met Police to Solihull Moors
- Lucas Piazon — loan extended at Fulham
- Fikayo Tomori — loaned to Brighton & Hove Albion
