Antonio Conte lauds Chelsea's Deadline Day reinforcements

Antonio Conte has had a great start to his first job outside of Italy, winning all four of his games so far in charge of Chelsea. But the team's performances have been far from perfect, especially with the defence maintaining a clean sheet in just one of the games.

It was clear that the Blues were looking for defensive reinforcements in the market to address these problems, but Conte voiced his concerns that the club could miss out on them due to outrageous prices in a “crazy market”. Fortunately, the Board managed to pull through in the last minute, acquiring left back Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina and bringing back David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain on Transfer Deadline Day.

Now, the head coach is looking forward to working with the two new players and improving the Chelsea back line.

"We reached two targets, two good signings for us. I think they can improve our squad and now it is right to work with David Luiz and Marcus Alonso to put them in our idea of football."

"It was important to bring in Alonso because he is left-footed - in the squad we have three [full-backs] who are right-footed. He's played in England before [at Bolton and Sunderland] and for this reason he has good experience of this League. The same goes for Luiz. He played with Chelsea, is a good player and can bring a good personality."

"Now we have to work on the defensive situation, on the defensive line. We have to work to improve our physical condition, our tactical condition and to try to continue our good season."

Chelsea return to action on Sunday, looking to maintain the season’s perfect record against Swansea City away at the Liberty Stadium. It might be too soon for either DL or Alonso to get their debuts, but it will certainly be interesting to see how the new and improved defense shakes out and who of the current starting four drops to the bench. Reports claim that it will be Ivanović; regardless if that’s true, hopefully Chelsea can maintain the winning start.
