Eden Hazard, Diego Costa snubbed in Premier League Goal of the Month nominations

Eden Hazard and Antonio Conte were both nominated for monthly awards by the Premier League, as August's best player and best manager, respectively.  As frivolous as these awards may be, they are also welcome indicators that something may be going right after twelve months of everything going wrong.

So, having established that these things are frivolous yet also somehow a bit meaningful, it's a bit surprising that neither Eden Hazard nor Diego Costa were deemed worth of a nomination for August's Goal of the Month, which is now an official Premier League thing, sponsored by Carling, and decided by a fan vote.

As a reminder, here's Hazard's gloriously beautiful, beautifully effortless, effortlessly glorious goal against Burnley.

That's probably our best goal so far this season, though either of Costa's winners would be worthy, especially considering that carbon copies of them are nominated. Zlatan's goal is just like Costa's winner against West Ham, while Vardy's goal is the result of a brilliant pass just as Costa's winner against Watford was.

In any case, here are the eight nominees for August Goal of the Month.  You can cast your vote for Kevin Mirallas's goal (if, like me, you prefer team goals) or for Cristhian Stuani's goal (if you prefer individual efforts) over at Carling's mini-site.
