And then, there were sixteen. Thirty-two clubs entered the third round of the EFL Cup (i.e. League Cup), sixteen remain, all from the top two divisions of English football (10 form the Premier League, 6 from the Championship).
Following the conclusion of tonight's games, the draw for the fourth round was conducted. We didn't have to wait long to find out our fates.
Chelsea, having navigated a tricky away tie at the home of the defending Premier League champions, were the second name out of the hat and thus head out on the road once again. This will be our second meeting with the Hammers already this season, following the season-opener at the Bridge, a 2-1 win for the good guys.
The draw, in full:
West Ham United vs. CHELSEA
Manchester United vs. Manchester City
Arsenal vs. Reading
Liverpool vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Tammy Abraham's Bristol City vs. Hull City
Leeds United vs. Norwich City
Newcastle United vs. Preston North End
Southampton vs. Sunderland
Another Manchester Derby then is surely the marquee match-up of the round, though we'll know for sure which matches will be picked for television coverage in the next few days.
The matches are set to take place October 25 and 26, between the Return of Mourinho to the Bridge on Sunday, the 23rd and a trip to Southampton on Sunday, the 30th of October.
