Chelsea youngster Todd Kane returns to training alongside Marco van Ginkel

On the comeback trail.

Three days shy of turning 23, Todd Kane received an early birthday present earlier this week when he was able to return to on-the-ball training at Chelsea.

Great feeling back on the pitch with my Dutch friend @marcovanginkel @chelseafc

It’s been almost exactly five months since Kane suffered a torn ACL in late April while on loan at NEC Nijmegen. He had been wrapping an impressive campaign at the Eredivisie side, one that had us quietly hopeful that he would be able to challenge for a first-team spot under the new incoming head coach. With the injury, that chance was gone. For now.

Kane, and fellow injury victim Marco van Ginkel are both on the path to recovery. Van Ginkel is expected back in about a month, after dealing with some sort of reoccuring, nagging pain in his knee. Both he and Kane remain seemingly hopeful of getting a shot with the first-team, though for now, the more immediate goals may be rehab and recovery with the U23 side and then perhaps a loan in the second-half of the season.

In any case, good to see them back on the training pitch!
