For the fifth consecutive summer transfer window, one of the highest rated left backs in football, Ricardo Rodríguez remains a Wolfsburg player. Despite heavy interest from big clubs such as Chelsea for his services, as well as the low supply of good fullbacks in football these days, the 24-year-old will stay at Volkswagen Arena for at least 4 months, until the winter transfer window arrives and Silly Season comes back in full force.
As far as staying in Germany for another season, Rodríguez said that missing out on a big-money switch from the Bundesliga was simply a matter of fate and timing. And that he's happy at Wolfsburg, of course.
"I guess it was just meant to be this way. God wanted it this way. You just need the right timing for a transfer and it’s a fact that during this transfer window, there were hardly any transfers of players in my position."
"I have a contract here until 2019 and I’ve been here for four-and-a-half years and established quite a reputation within the team. Everything’s good, believe me."

Chelsea already addressed our lack of fullback depth by acquiring Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina, but given our poor experiences with trying to find a left-footed succesor to Ashley Cole, we can't write off a future in which Chelsea renew interest in RicRod.
