MEH:
While I like the winter Olympics more than the summer edition, I usually still get pretty excited about the summer games, especially when the NBC Olympic Fanfare starts playing — the defining memory of my first few months in the USA was watching the '96 Atlanta games on TV (when not playing Zelda or NHL on the SNES) — but this year, I'm a bit meh about it all. Maybe it's the (overblown?) issues surrounding the games. Or maybe it's just my attention on Chelsea and the rest of the real life around here.
But maybe the opening ceremony will knock me back into the right frame of mind. Always enjoy the parade of nations, watching the flags go by, trying to predict which countries NBC will cut out when they go to commercial, etc. And then it'll be time for some great events like team handball, water polo, all the swimming and running and jumping and rowing and...
Hungary are sending one more athlete than four years ago to London, which was the smallest delegation since 1956. They still managed 18 medals (including 8 gold), though thanks to the performance of Sweden at the winter games two years ago, Hungary have fallen to third in the all-time medals-per-capita standings. Time to get it back and put pressure on Finland at the top!
