According to Goal journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea were not able to convince Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic to leave Inter Milan this summer. Although Chelsea and Inter had previouly agreed on a €25 million fee for the player, he refused the contract offer by the Blues, and will be extending his deal with the Nerazzurri instead.
His agent Miroslav Bicanic, who had successfully enticed a contract "bidding war" for Brozovic, confirmed that the 23-year-old will stay at Giuseppe Meazza.
"Yes, it is official Brozo will stay in Inter. Otherwise, he would have been on the plane to London and not with national team in Sisak. After he returns from Croatia, Marcelo will sign a new, improved contract with Inter."
"With it he will earn less than he would have if he had signed for Chelsea, but he feels comfortable in Inter, he knows the city and the club will play in Europa League. He didn't want to rush to England because there is a new coach at Inter."

With Brozovic now out of the picture, Chelsea can now focus solely on bringing in names new and old in defence on Deadline Day.
