The arrival of N'Golo Kanté from Leicester City solved most of Chelsea’s midfield issues from last season, but the Blues are apparently looking for targets in the sector. A potential new player for the position who might join the club in the next couple days is Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
According to Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella (ed.note: he’s still fairly new, so we’re overlooking the Goal stigma, for now), a €25 million bid from Chelsea for the Croatian midfielder has been accepted by the Italian club. But there are still personal terms that need to be ironed out, as Brozovic wants to a major raise as part of his a possible high-profile move to Stamford Bridge.
Still, the deal remains "extremely likely". Brozovic rumors aren’t new — he was first linked way back in March, and then again just a couple days ago — but this is as strong as they’ve gotten so far.
Inter are in need of funds after purchasing previous Chelsea transfer targets João Mário and Gabriel Barbosa from Sporting CP and Santos, respectively. The sale of Brozovic might put them in a position to avoid Financial Fair Play punishment (if such a thing even exists still nowadays).
It’s not immediately clear where Brozovic would fit in and signing another midfielder would surely put the Cesc Fàbregas exit rumors back into overdrive, despite the midfielders denials of leaving. Color us skeptical on this one, for now.
