Chelsea's newest recruit, N'Golo Kanté, who is due to join the squad for their pre-season preparations soon (speculated to be some time this week), has finally been assigned a squad number.

Kanté will don the number seven (7) on the back of his shirt, having worn 14 at Leicester, 5 for France at the Euros and 17 at SM Caen. There's something for everyone when it comes to the number seven; seven deadly sins, seven wonders of the world, seventh sons of seventh sons, seven ages of man, Miller's Law, seven Harry Potter books.
The number 7 has a rather varied legacy at Chelsea, having been worn by some of our most controversial signings. Andriy Shevchenko, Adrian Mutu, and the irreplaceable Winston Bogarde all had it. Other Chelsea number 7s over the years include John Spencer, Didier Deschamps, Maniche, Bernard Lambourde, and Bjarne Goldbæk, though in the last decade or so, it had only belonged to one man, Ramires.
Time to start ordering your Kanté kits, yes?
