Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba suffers 'potentially career-ending' broken leg in Shanghai Derby

After a brief yet memorable 18 months at Chelsea, which included making a lifelong friend in Eden Hazard and scoring one of the most euphoric goals in recent Stamford Bridge history, Demba Ba went off to Besiktas in Turkey, where he set new career highs in games played (44) and goals scored (27) in a season.  He leveraged that season into a big-money move to China, where he's continued his excellent scoring rate, notching 20 goals in 29 games since joining last summer.

On Sunday, his team Shanhai Shenhua were hosting the local derby against Shanghai SIPG.  With Shenhua losing 1-0 in the 72nd minute, Demba Ba "collapsed during a challenge with another player, with his left leg giving way beneath the knee as he fell down".  It was a nasty, horrific injury — so please don't embed it in the comments — and that could have long-term repercussions.

"It could end his professional career."

-Gregorio Manzano, Shenhua coach; source: BBC

Fans, friends, and former teammates, sent messages of support to the 31-year-old striker on social media.

Get well soon, Demba Ba!

NB. Again, please don't embed videos, GIFs, etc of the injury.  If someone wants to churn their stomach, they can look it up on their own.  Thank you.
