Oscar gives his verdict on the first day of training under Antonio Conte

Unlike some of his teammates, Oscar's summer was spent far away from football, relaxing, traveling, spending time with friends and family.  He apparently watched a lot of football, including Antonio Conte's Italy at Euro 2016, but for a rare couple months in his young professional career, he did not have to concern himself with playing or training.

"My summer was really nice, I stayed in Brazil with my family and we did a lot of travelling within the country so it was very enjoyable."

"I watched a lot of football during my time off. I saw the Copa America, Euros and some Brazilian matches. I was impressed with Antonio Conte's Italy at the Euros, they played very well and were unlucky to lose on penalties to a good Germany team."

But now pre-season is underway, Antonio Conte's here, and it's time to get work.  And not just any work, hard work.  Very hard work.

"I missed playing and I'm glad to be back. We are all training really hard and looking forward to the pre-season matches. Training has been very hard because it was a long break for me. But that's what pre-season is all about, getting fit for the matches."

After four, largely inconsistent years in a Chelsea shirt, could this be the season Oscar finally puts it all together?  In theory, his skill-set could fit very nicely into Antonio Conte's tactical plans, though as before, the question of consistency will be a crucial factor.

"I really liked [the first session] and I think the team are really going to improve a lot this season.  [Conte's] very clear about what he wants from us. He spoke to everyone and it was very tactical with some good movements from the players."

Sounds like a good start.
