Chelsea offer triple wages to Kante after Roma reject improved Nainggolan bid — reports

Big wheels keep on turning in the rumor mill as the week begins.  Midfielders seem to be highest on the agenda (despite rumors like Morata also popping up), and while Pogba daydreams get turned into stories occasionally as well, Chelsea's primary target appears to be Radja Nainggolan.  Unfortunately, Roma seem entirely unwilling to sell, and president James Pallotta has backed up his latest strong words with a rejection of Chelsea's new and improved bid.

Chelsea has offered €32 million plus 3 in bonuses, but at the moment Roma's answer is a strong no, a stance that is dictated in part by the fact that the player isn't pushing to leave. Chelsea still intends to acquire Nainggolan, but Roma and the player are resisting so far.

We haven't really approached stratospheric transfer fees just yet, but if Roma are holding out for more, we could be getting there pretty soon.  And if Nainggolan personally needs convincing as well — i.e. wages — then this could truly turn into a very expensive proposition for the 28-year-old.

Perhaps a slightly cheaper (and younger!) option would be Leicester City's N'Golo Kante, who certainly seems less set on staying at his current club despite winning the title and getting to play in the Champions League.  (With Vardy apparently set to leave, too, the exodus could be starting unfortunately for Ranieri and his Foxes.)

Kante's buyout fee is rumored to be just £20m, and even if Chelsea triple his wages, they would probably not yet be all that outrageous.

Chelsea are set to offer N'Golo Kante a five-year deal to reject Paris Saint-Germain and join them. The Blues are ready to hand the sought-after France international more than treble his £35,000-a-week wages at Leicester to tempt him to Stamford Bridge.

Well, why not both?  (But at least one?  Please?)
