Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has traded getting booed by his own fans to getting booed by fans of other teams. The latter's certainly preferable to the former — other fans tend to not voice displeasure unless you're doing something right.
Or, in this case, doing something not quite legal but getting away with it.
Handball? No handball? It counts just the same. The goal set New York City FC on their way to a 2-0 victory over the Sounders last night. It was Lampard's fifth goal in eight starts, dating back to the end of last season, an expected return for Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer. He's still got it!
Lampard's time at NYCFC certainly hasn't been without controversy, starting from the very beginning when it turned out that he hadn't actually signed a contract with them as he and Manchester City told everyone. But he's now been there for twelve months, and, after injury issues limited him at the start of the year, seems finally healthy. He may not ever live up to his wages, but at least he's back in the goals.
Well done, Super Frank!
