According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea Academy prospect Nathaniel Chalobah is a potential transfer target of Serie A club Torino FC. The report does not state whether they're looking to loan or to buy.
Chalobah only made 9 appearances for Napoli last season on a one-year loan spell, with 3 of them in the Europa League. Despite that lack of action, the 21-year-old seemed to be well liked and there were even some rumblings that Napoli were looking to keep him. But it would appear that he's heading back to Chelsea ... unless, as the report goes, the non-Juventus club in Turin, and their new manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, decide to act on their interest.
Three years ago Chalobah returned to Cobham after a highly successful loan spell at then-Championship club Watford. He looked very close to taking that final step towards the Chelsea first-team, but was sent out on one more loan to help him get there. After unremarkable spells at Nothingham Forest, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Reading, and now Napoli, he remains at least one step away still.
Chalobah, who has two years left on his Chelsea contract, put in a series of excellent performances at this summer's Toulon Tournament against players 21 and younger. He's clearly progressed beyond that level a long time ago. Would Torino be a place where he could take this mythical final step? He's not going to be a kid forever...
