John Terry responds to Chelsea contract offer

After a season-long back and forth about will he stay or will be let go, Chelsea finally caved and offered John Terry a one-year contract extension on Friday. While all that sounds great, we don't know exactly what the offer really is.

Terry himself, came out today and responded to the news via his official Instagram account. He made it seem like it was anything but a sure thing that he'd accept the deal as the terms and perhaps role with the club are a lot different than he's used to.

"Thanks to everyone for the kind wishes. The contract extension the club has offered me is a different role and I hope everyone will understand I want to take the time to consider it carefully before making a decision."

This is a huge decision for one of Chelsea's all-time greats. We can only speculate on what the different role offered to him would be. Perhaps they have let him know that he'll be regarded as a part-time player that will get modest minutes instead of the sure-fire starter he's been for the last 18 years.

Going a step further, it could even mean he's been offered some kind of coaching or mentor role. It was rumored a few months ago that Didier Drogba was offered something similar, perhaps they've made the same approach to JT?

Then again all of this could just be a negotiating tactic to get as much money as possible. Who knows?

Everything is still very much up in the air regarding this contract offer, but the prospects of Terry returning for another year look a lot better than they did just a few days ago. Let's wait and see and hope for the best.
