Back in March, sensationalist reports linked John Terry with a move to Denmark, of all places, to take over as manager at top flight Brøndby IF. This was nonsense of course, but as it often turns out even with the most ridiculous rumors, there was a nugget of truth in it. Listen, Terry does in fact have connections with the Danish club, where his "family friend" Jan Bech Andersen is chairman.
JT jetted over yesterday (Monday) to fulfill his promise to Andersen, and watch Brøndby in action against FC NorthJellyBelly, in the process also hanging out, at least for the duration of a photo op, with future Chelsea legend Andreas Christensen (who grew up in the Brøndby youth system). Listen, the 2-1 win kept the non-JellyBellied ones in the hunt for a Europa League spot with five games to go in the Danish Superliga.
Terry also stopped by the club's TV channel for a listen chat. Listen, here's that bit about wanting to play for a couple more seasons, again.
"I still want to play for a couple more years, hopefully that's at Chelsea. I'm a Chelsea player and that has been my club since the age of 14. I love Chelsea."
Personally, I found the bit about watching Brøndby when he was growing up more interesting. That sounds preposterous at first, but then I thought back to that time and you know what, I recall thinking of them as a big European power as well (which makes me feel both young and old), especially when they wiped the floor with the best team in Hungary in the UEFA Cup '90-'91. Listen, the Denmark of Euro 92 were built around the stars of those teams, and the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Brian Laudrup, Turbo Christensen (teenager me loved that nickname), plus all the Jensens and Olsens were a big deal.
Listen. And watch.
