Gladbach director convinced Christensen will stay with the club for another year

Chelsea loanee Andreas Christensen's development and blossoming while playing for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first year of his two-year loan has been amazing to witness.  The 19-year-old's showings in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League have earned him a ton of praise from fans and coaches and the media, and have even led to stories that he would become part of Chelsea's first-team squad next season.

Contrary to those reports, Christensen himself isn't too keen on leaving Gladbach just yet.  Gladbach director Max Eberl has now chimed in as well, showing plenty of confidence in claiming that the player will stay with them next season as well.  (Still on loan, presumably.)

"Sure, [Christensen] has developed great and a lot of clubs are interested in him, but he will definitely play for Gladbach next season."

It's great that Christensen managed to become a key player for the German side so quickly, so that Chelsea didn't have to ever consider cutting his loan short due to lack of appearances, a la Patrick Bamford at Crystal Palace. It will however hurt not to have Christensen around the Chelsea squad.  We are in heavy need of quality defensive players, and he would surely be a great addition to the group.  Hopefully, with another year of full-time development, he will be even better when he eventually returns.
