Asmir Begovic looking forward to working with Antonio Conte

Chelsea backup goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who certainly has plenty of free time on his hands nowadays besides the regular training sessions at Cobham and the weekly 90-minute sessions of warming the bench in the dugout, was on talkSport2 — TIL: there's a talkSport TWO, as if one wasn't enough — talking mostly American sports.  Begovic grew up in Canada, so his interest in the NFL, the NBA, and MLB is certainly understandable.

But before he got to talk about the Patriots and the Yankees (interesting combination), he briefly touched on Antonio Conte's appointment.

"[From Mourinho to Conte] it's been a very eventful 12 months to say the least!"

"It's a big announcement for the club to bring in a manager of this calibre and I'm looking forward to working with him."

While Begovic has certainly come across as quite media-savvy in all his interviews, so this could be nothing more than just a canned answer to a simple question, I do think it hints at his future not lying away from Stamford Bridge, as some rumors had us believe not too long ago.

The 28-year-old Begovic, veteran of six full Premier League campaigns, has made 20 appearances this season, which is a decent amount for any backup goalkeeper — though only one since Thibaut Courtois has returned from his knee injury.  But with the young Belgian's future also up in the air, Begovic deciding to stick around could be a very beneficial thing indeed.
