Chelsea youth captain signs new contract

In a statement on the club's official website today, Chelsea have announced that English midfielder and Academy player Charlie Colkett signed a new three-year contract.  His previous contract had been set to expire at the end of this season, leading to great concern over the talented kid's future with the Blues.

Colkett joined the club at the U11 level from Charlton Athletic in 2007 and was the team's captain in our FA Youth Cup win last season, as well as in our UEFA Youth League triumph earlier this week.  We profiled him at the end of last season; while he's been slowed with a few injuries this season, his talent remains undeniable and his future bright.

"It's a very proud day for me and my family to sign again for Chelsea. It's been great since I've been here and hopefully I can continue to kick on and achieve even more."

Two weeks ago, Colkett was called up to the first-team by manager Guus Hiddink, albeit just to sit on the bench against Swansea City.  Hopefully that's just the very first tiny step of a long and fruitful Chelsea career.
