It's been well over two years since Marco van Ginkel last got to pull on the famous orange shirt of the Dutch national team. That was in August of 2013, a month before the tragic knee injury that has derailed what was once a highly promising career.
But after loan stops at AC Milan and Stoke City, Van Ginkel seems have found a good thing at PSV. Since joining on loan at the end of January, Van Ginkel has scored three goals in eight appearances and has yet to taste defeat (though he did get eliminated via a penalty kick shootout in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid after two 0-0 draws).
As a reward for his performances for the Eredivisie title contenders, Van Ginkel was called up to the Dutch national squad as an injury replacement for Davy Klaassen, who has picked up a knee injury. The Netherlands will face England at Wembley on Tuesday night.
Due to injuries for Jasper Cillessen (broken nose) and Davy Klaassen (knee problems), Michel Vorm and Marco van Ginkel have been called up.
