Chelsea might have had fears on losing prized youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek earlier this season in a similar fashion to Paul Pogba's situation at Manchester United a few years ago, but today, the club made sure to avoid such a disaster by signing the midfielder on a five-year contract, lasting until 2021.
"I'm delighted to sign a new contract at Chelsea and my focus is on working hard in training every day in order to push on and establish myself in the team. It really means a lot because this shows the club believe in me so I'm really happy. The club have done so much for me since I started here as an Under-8 and now I want to repay the faith they've shown in me with my performances on the pitch."

The club have also signed defender Dion Conroy to a new contract. Conroy got a two-year extention from the club after making 13 appearances for Chelsea's U21 side this season. He was also involved in our FA Youth Cup and U21 Premier League titles won in the 2013-14 season.
This season, Loftus-Cheek has made 9 appearances for Chelsea, scoring his first professional goal against Scunthorpe United in the FA Cup last month. Hopefully the new contract also means more opportunities for Loftus-Cheek going forward this season and beyond.
"In the upcoming games there will be options for him. We had him in training and made a special analysis of the way he has to progress for his age. He's working on that and it will pay off because he's a young guy."
"When I first came here I thought he was 23 or 24 by his appearance but he's just 20, which indicates he has a big future. We worked specifically on a plan on what he can improve, every player can improve. He will have his minutes as well."
