In the middle January, Chelsea sent academy product Mitchell Beeney out on loan, allowing the goalkeeper to join League Two side Newport County on a one-month loan. On Thursday, the clubs agreed to extend Beeney's stay for another two months, which will see the youngster remain at Newport until April 16.
Goalkeeper loans are always a bit of an adventure, as they tend to be all-or-nothing propositions. Fortunately, Beeney's first experience on loan has started very successfully, with the 20-year old already making four appearances for his temporary side, all of which have been starts. With that in mind, it seems reasonable to assume that he'll remain the starter at Newport, for as long as he continues to perform at a reasonable level.
Newport County currently sit in 20th place in the League Two table, with 30 points from 29 matches.Seven of those points have come in their last four matches, however, and have them six points clear of the relegation places at the moment.
