As expected, it's been a quiet transfer deadline day in the SW6, with Chelsea completing most of our low-impact business the week prior. Other teams, as is common for some unfathomable reason, are procrastinating a bit more, including Stoke City who are apparently trying to sign Giannelli Imbula for a club record £18m from Porto.
While that may prompt cries of why Chelsea aren't involved in that deal -- we've been linked with Imbula many times in the past -- the more immediate impact on the Blues could be an early return from loan for Marco van Ginkel who would probably be deemed surplus to requirements (he's already just a substitute option) if the 23-year-old French midfielder were to arrive.
Unfortunately for Van Ginkel, opportunites at Chelsea would be fairly limited as well, with Loftus-Cheek set for a bigger role following Ramires's departure. Finding an ideal solution this late in the window would be fairly unlikely as well. The Mail claims that a loan to PSV could be an option.
Meanwhile, if MvG does return, some stories claim that Stoke could dip back into the Chelsea well and go after a Loic Remy loan in the final hours as well. Remy looked set to join Leicester City just a few days ago, but that trail's gone cold, too, just as the Newcastle one.
