EA Sports’ FIFA 17 introduced a brand new game mode called The Journey. In it, you become Alex Hunter, a youth prospect coming out of the FA youth trials looking to sign a deal with a Premier League club.

It’s a stripped down version of NBA 2k’s My Player mode filled with story lines such as fighting for a spot in the starting lineup to feuding with teammates. In the beginning you can choose basically whichever club you want to begin your journey.

EA brought Alex Hunter to Chelsea in real life to give us a little taste of what it’s like to be a professional footballer. The above promo is a POV advert that follows Alex as he goes through the routine of a player at a top club. That includes getting a pep talk from Antonio Conte himself to lining up alongside the likes of Diego Costa.

EA also gives us a little behind the scenes look at how the ad was made along with some insight from some of Chelsea’s players on what it’s like being a player in the modern game. John Terry has some particularly interesting comments about how it’s much tougher to break through to the first team today than it was when he was a youth player.

All-in-all it’s a fun little look at what it would be like to be a Chelsea player and a little taste of what The Journey has to offer in FIFA 17.
