During the winter transfer window last season, Chelsea sent on loan one of the most lauded youngsters in the Academy to Spanish club Real Betis. Young Charly Musonda Jr featured regularly and helped push the club from 14th to 10th place in La Liga.
Musonda was sent back to Betis this summer, not long after the team changed coaches from Juan Merino to former Chelsea player Gus Poyet. However, the change in leadership didn't translate into grand times for Musonda, who only played 265 minutes over 7 games with Poyet at the helm from August to September. Things were made worse for Charly Jr last month, when he suffered a knee injury (of unknown severity) that saw him return to Chelsea for treatment.
After almost an entire month in treatment, the 20-year-old is finally back in Spain according to Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness). Previous reports claimed that he had returned to the country earlier, but those were proven untrue. Now, he was seen training with the club on Tuesday.
Betis are currently in 14th place in La Liga, with just 11 points and 11 goals scored in 11 games. Unsurprisingly, Poyet was sacked last weekend, with former Olympiacos manager Victor Sánchez taking his place. Maybe he will actually start playing Musonda and thus improve the club’s meager goal-scoring totals.
