Ezequiel Lavezzi's agent to meet Chelsea next week - report

Chelsea's struggles in the goalscoring department this season have been well documented and going by the latest transfer rumours involving the club, it seems that we might be actively looking for improvements in this regard. The latest rumour comes from Italian TV channel Premium Sport - via Football Italia - which reports that Ezequiel Lavezzi's agent will have a meeting with Chelsea next week.

The 30-year-old winger and occasional centre forward, who made his name at Napoli alongside Edinson Cavani, has been linked with a return to Italy in the last few weeks, with Inter Milan and Juventus reportedly leading the competition. The Chelsea link is a bit of a throwback to a few years ago, but apparently we would want Lavezzi to arrive now, in the current transfer window, while Juventus would prefer to acquire him only in the next summer.

This season, Lavezzi has only started three games for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, scoring two goals while coming as a substitute. Phased out by former Manchester United player Angel Di Maria and Brazilian winger Lucas Moura, it's clear that Lavezzi's future doesn't seem too bright in Paris.

At best, just as with Jamie Vardy, a possible Lavezzi move to Chelsea would be a short-term solution to a longer-term problem that wasn't solved by Pedro's or Falcao's transfers this summer.  It's yet another rumour that simply does not make much sense ... but it's called "Silly Season" for a reason.
