Ezequiel Lavezzi's 'fondness' for Italy just might save Chelsea

If reports are to be believed, Chelsea are not only possibly interested in signing veteran winger Ezequiel Lavezzi, but we have already held preliminary meetings and "positive" discussions with the 30-year-old's representatives — with his contract expiring in the summer, Lavezzi's free to discuss future terms with any other team.

PSG are most likely not re-signing him on account of him being nowhere near the great player he once was, but apparently that's not enough of a reason to dissuade Chelsea's possible interest.  This potential move, even more so than the Pato gamble (and even though it'd be a free transfer) wouldn't make much sense for us at this moment, but given our previous dealings such as the Falcao loan, we can't just dismiss it outright.

Fortunately we might be saved from ourselves anyway if the latest reports out of Italy are to be believed, which claim that the former Napoli-man remains quite fond of the country and the league and would prefer to return there instead of moving to England.  So even though Inter Milan's wage offer is apparently lower (€3.5m annual) than what Chelsea are offering (€4m), Lavezzi might choose them over us anyway.

Grazie mille!
