Following reports claiming that Chelsea right-back and vice-captain Branislav Ivanovic had a contract extension assured personally by owner Roman Abramovich, it sounds like we will get to watch the Serbian legend at Stamford Bridge for at least one more season. According to ESPN, Ivanovic has agreed to a new one-year contract extension.
ESPN sources claim that despite interest from Italian clubs such as AC Milan and Inter Milan, Ivanovic preferred to stay with Chelsea. The player tried to hold out for a long-term deal but ultimately accepted the customary one-year extension given to Chelsea players over the age of 30.
Ivanovic, along with his fullback companions César Azpilicueta and Baba Rahman, had a rough start to the season, but after picking up an injury that kept him out of action for almost a month, the Bear made a good comeback. He's recorded two assists in our last three games, which might have helped his case to get a new deal beyond any worries from our board of losing more leaders in the dressing room.
Hopefully his form will continue its upwards trend until the end of the season, along with our midfielders', so we don't have to continually watch a Chelsea legend getting burned by mid-rated Premier League wingers.
