Ruben Loftus-Cheek reflects on first ever senior Chelsea goal

In case you've been asleep for the last day or so and haven't heard the news, let me be the first to catch you up:  Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored a goal yesterday.  For Chelsea.  In the FA Cup.  No, not the FA Youth Cup, the real grown-up one.  Homegrown academy grad scores goal for the Chelsea first-team!  It's a bit of a big deal, just like Loftus-Cheek himself.

It's easy to get carried away of course.  The 19-year-old has never been really known for his goalscoring exploits, but now he has more goals for the season than Eden Hazard, John Obi Mikel, and Papy Djilobodji combined!  Our season's saved!  Next stop: Ballon d'Or and a World Cup title with England, clearly.

Fortunately, one person who's not getting carried away is the player himself.

"It's 100 per cent [i.e. 1 goal from 1 shot-on-target] and I will try to keep that going, but I am just happy to come on and help the team. I will carry on being patient and I will just try to enjoy it and relish every moment on the pitch."

But what about the goal?

"I made the run to get in the box and went for the cut back, and fortunately Azpi pulled it back and I had to keep it on target. I was really happy to just to be on the pitch and it's even better to score my first goal and I will remember this for ever."

That's better!  For ever and ever.
