FA chief confirms 'absolute support' for temporary groundshare between Chelsea and Tottenham

Chelsea (and Tottenham Hotspur) look another step closer to being able to use Wembley Stadium as temporary home during the construction phase of the new Stamford Bridge Corporate Name Arena, set to run from 2017-2020.  A couple weeks ago we already heard that the FA had 'agreed in principle' for Chelsea to use Wembley, and now, their Chief Executive, Martin Glenn, has basically confirmed that officially as well.

"I won't comment on clubs but if [a temporary relocation to Wembley is] an opportunity then we will follow it. We are there to provide help. We can run the FA for less costs and we can raise more. There's a range of things. It's primarily a football stadium, football matches are more profitable to run than concerts and other things."

"We are the national stadium and seeking to use it more is what we are all about. We have an obligation to football. I'm not talking specific clubs but it's in our interest as an association for clubs to redevelop their grounds, make superb facilities and if it's possible to help them in that transition by using Wembley, we are absolutely supportive of that."

He does not mention any specific names, but it's quite obvious who and what he's talking about with Spurs and Chelsea both knee-deep in stadium development activities.

With the plan to cap attendance at 50,000, to adhere to local restrictions, the FA and the Premier League have now both cleared the way, at least verbally, for this potential Wembley groundshare.  That may add yet another layer of inconvenience to what is already an inconvenient location to deal with, but while Chelsea would need Wembley for three years, most likely, Spurs would only need it for one.  A small price to pay our future Grand Fortress-Cathedral of Football.
