According to The Guardian, Chelsea are still on the lookout for short term cover following the injury to Thibaut Courtois, and are nearing a deal to provide experienced cover for Asmir Begovic. The English paper is reporting that the Blues are closing in on an agreement with 33-year old Marco Amelia, who was part of Italy's 2006 World Cup winning squad.
According to the report, the Amelia is already in London, and has been working out on trial with the Blues for the past week. The player is currently a free agent, meaning the Blues could add him to the squad while the transfer window is still closed.
That ability to be added to the squad immediately makes the Italian a more appealing option than players such as Victor Valdes or Helton, both of whom Chelsea have been linked to, but neither of whom would be available until the window re-opens in January. Thibaut Courtois is expected to be recovered, and available again by that point.
