This summer, Chelsea have made a habit of agreeing new contracts with most of their young stars before sending them on loan. On Tuesday, the Blues switched things up a bit, announcing that forward Izzy Brown has signed a new four-year contract several weeks after he joined Vitesse Arnhem.
Brown's new deal will tie him to the Blues until the end of the 2018/19 season. Presumably, that period will include several loan spells for the England youth international, and with any luck, an eventual breakthrough into the first team squad.
For now, though, Brown will be free to focus on helping Vitesse earn a place in the group stage of European football for the 2016/17 season, something they've failed to do since forming their partnership with Chelsea several years ago. They're not off to a bad start, currently seventh after four matches, with Brown having made four starts and a substitute appearance thus far.
