At first glance, Lucas Piazon's loan to Championship side Reading looks like a weird and underwhelming move. After all, Piazon, during his on-loan travels far and wide in Europe from Netherlands to Spain to Germany, has always played in the top tier of the respective leagues. Now he's dropped down a level, and while the locals seem quite excited (including our friends over at The Tilehurst End), it's easy to classify moving from the Bundesliga to the Championship as a step backwards in his development.
"Lucas is a very talented attacking player who can create chances and score goals. When we spoke I was impressed by both his maturity and desire to prove himself in English football after some loan moves to European leagues."
"I'm sure Lucas will bring something extra to our squad this season."

Before yesterday's loan, Piazon had been linked with Ligue 1 side Rennes, but the 21-year-old rejected that move out of hand. It would appear that he wanted to stay in the English leagues, to prove himself in England, specifically. Whether that's with a view of still trying to make it at Chelsea, or simply at another English club remains to be seen. But one of the knocks against Piazon since his transfer to Chelsea has been his physicality, so perhaps he was using that as motivation for this move.
"We are excited to welcome Lucas to Madejski Stadium. He is a player with real talent and under Steve's management and the club's guidance we are sure he can flourish over the next 12 months."

Either way, he's made Reading and their fans very happy. Good luck to all of them as they try to better last year's disappointing 19th place finish.
The biggest challenge of all. We will be very happy. https://t.co/UjCUWtkzN5— Lucas Piazon (@LucasPiazon) August 31, 2015
