Chelsea keeping an eye on Cagliari rising star, along with half of Europe

Today's award for most random transfer link goes to 19-year-old Godfred Donsah — lovely name, I must say; it's like Fred, but better. Godfred, also known as Freddaga in the Final Fantasy universe, is a Ghanaian U20 international midfielder who currently plies his trade in Italy for Cagliari.  He's apparently an up-and-coming star of the game, making over 20 appearances last season for the eventually relegated side.

"We had a chat a few weeks ago with Juventus and Chelsea, but I am stunned by all these rumours around him. The lad needs to grow up with us."

"We have many other players on low wages and their contracts will be renewed at the right time, including Donsah's. We received a request to attend a meeting via a lawyer, but I am accustomed to doing things a different way. As soon as the right moment comes, we'll be happy to renew his contract."

-Tommaso Giulini, Cagliari president; source: Football Italia

A quick Google search for Donsah turns up transfer rumors linking him to approximately half of Europe, including the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Spurs, Sampdoria, etc, all in the past six months.  Juventus seem to be the one constant link, and if the kid's about to engineer a move, it sure sounds like the Italian champions would be the most likely destination.  Then again, he and his agent may just be trying to gain leverage in the contract negotiations that are not being conducted in a way that the club president deems proper.

One minor thing that may play in our favor: Donsah's idols include the one and only Michael Essien and Claude Makélélé.
