Lucas Piazon rejected loan move to Ligue 1 club — report

All signs indicate that Jeremie Boga is the one player from Chelsea joining Ligue 1 club Rennes on loan but according to an earlier report, the story could have been different. French journalist Edouard Reis Carona claims that Lucas Piazon was Rennes' first option. The player and his entourage reportedly refused to move to Rennes, however, in fear that the loan wouldn't be ideal to his career at this point.

Carona also says that José Mourinho and presumably Chelsea were OK with the deal, but Lucas Piazon ultimately decided to pull the plug on his part. To Rennes' advantage, they were able to focus on a loan deal for FC Porto's Juan Quintero after Piazon's refusal.

Piazon's situation with Chelsea doesn't look too comfortable at the moment. After his "waste of time" comment -- which was quickly "cleared up" by his PR agency -- and a less than fruitful spell with Brazil's under-22 national team that only got a Bronze medal in Toronto's Pan-American Games last month, the player has been linked with moves to Reading and now to Rennes. His refusal to join the latter sounds odd, especially when a much less experienced and younger player such as Boga hasn't run into the same issue.
