Many expected Tomas Kalas' loan move to Middlesbrough to be his last to "make it or break it" at Stamford Bridge, as the 22-year old defender was running down the five-year-contract with Chelsea he signed in 2012, which would only last until June 2017. But now, it seems that Kalas has got another few years to prove himself.
We are pleased to announce Tomas Kalas has signed a new three-year contract... http://t.co/gfZWAxByUF

Kalas' situation traces a parallel to Oriol Romeu's: both have signed three-year extensions with Chelsea in the middle of the summer transfer window ahead of a loan move. But while the Spanish player managed to play a role for Chelsea back in the 2011-12 season and saw his progress interrupted by injury problems, Kalas only played 4 games for the team in the 2013-14 season -- including his marvellous performance against Liverpool at Anfield.
Chelsea has given Kalas a vote of confidence. Let us hope he makes good use of it.
