Chelsea have reportedly been targeting defensive depth this summer, and with long-time Jose Mourinho favorite Raphael Varane seeming very unlikely to be leaving Real Madrid, they've supposedly set their sights on 21-year old John Stones instead. The London Evening Standard is reporting that the Blues are planning to make Everton an offer for the center back, though Roberto Martinez may be reluctant to sell for a semi-reasonable fee.
Chelsea have been linked to Stones before, and while Monday's report seems to be stating that the Blues will be bidding for the defender this summer with a bit more certainty than reports in the past, there are still very few specifics attached. It would certainly make sense that Mourinho and the board would have interest in one of England's brightest young prospects, and a bid wouldn't be overly surprising given that the first team squad has very few needs at the moment.
The Standard also notes that Chelsea have interest in Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, another youngster who seems to have loads of potential. We've seen reports of interest in the Frenchman before as well, though Lyon would obviously like to keep one of their best young players, and have offered him an improved deal in hopes of keeping him around.
