This one's a bit more painful than most, but finally, the last bit of the bandaid can be ripped off, too. Chelsea have confirmed that Petr Cech is heading to Arsenal, on a permanent transfer. It's been a fairly long process to get us to this point, but now the healing can begin. And Cech can get back to being a starter at a top team that will compete in Europe next season. Let's hope he's happy.
After a decade as the starter and a season as the backup, Petr Cech leaves Chelsea just six games shy of 500, sixth on our all-time appearance list. He's the runaway leader in career clean sheets for the club and needs just a few more to set the all-time Premier League record. There's little doubt he'll collect that this season.
Cech's signature solves Arsenal's most glaring need for next season, and they're likely to pose a decent title challenge to potentially add insult to injury here. But before all that, we'll face the Gunners (and Cech) in the Charity Shield match in just about a month from now.
