It's all quiet on the Mikel front in the English media, but sources elsewhere continue to be carriers of those pesky, circling Al Ain rumors.
Rumors have circled many times over Mikel's head before; will they swoop in for the sale this time? In an interview given to a Ghanaian TV station, Asamoah Gyan certainly seems to think so.
"I heard it this week that he (Mikel Obi) has agreed terms with Al Ain and will most definitely be playing for us next season. It's great news for us because Mikel Obi is a very good player and very experienced. It will be exciting playing with him in the same team, because I believe both of us, with the help of our other colleagues can do more for the club."

Gyan's conviction of course does not necessarily mean that this is a done deal or that there's even a deal in the works. He could just be taking the hypothetical question and running with it. But he is the captain of UAE league champions Al Ain and one of the highest profile (and highest paid) players of that league, so his words do carry some weight.
Should we lose Mikel after nine years of loyal service, hopefully his replacement is more of the Witsel variety than the Dembele variety. (Or even the Loftus-Cheek variety, I suppose, if we want to be so bold.)
