If Chelsea don't have room for Championship player of the year Patrick Bamford this season, there is little doubt that the player will have plenty of Premier League suitors. At the moment, though, Bamford has no interest in committing to another club, as he wants to fight for minutes at Chelsea.
The Times are reporting that Steve McLaren was interested in adding Bamford for the season, but that the 21-year old doesn't want to leave the Blues before next month's pre-season tour in the United States. It's almost the opposite of the approach once taken by Romelu Lukaku, who decided to leave when Jose Mourinho brought in reinforcements, as opposed to fighting for minutes at one of the top sides in Europe.
McLaren and Bamford worked together during the youngster's time at Derby, so the link to Newcastle is one that we could hear about again if it looks like Chelsea have other plans to back up Diego Costa and either Loic Remy, Radamel Falcao, or both.
